How long has your community been in business?

We are one of the first built Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facilities in Mount Pleasant.  We have been in operation since the 1970s and started accepting Medicare & Medicaid in 1981.

Do you have your own in-house therapy team and what kind of therapy do you offer?

Yes, we have our own certified in-house therapy team. At Sandpiper Post-Acute we offer Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Medical Nutrition Therapy, VitalStim Therapy Certified, and Geriatric Specialist Physical Therapy.

How long will I be there?

The length of stay is different for each patient. We have a specialized team to work with each patient in order to help you with your special needs and get you back home as soon as possible.  The average length of stay is 18 days.

Do you have televisions?

We do have televisions in each of our rehabilitation rooms. Our long-term care rooms are set up with cable and tv ready however we allow the resident to bring the tv of choice. We will help set it up and get it ready for use.

Do you have activities available?

Yes, we have an activities department with a director and two assistances.  We provide engaging activities daily. We produce a monthly calendar that is delivered to each resident, posted on each wing, and posted in the activities room.  All activities are by choice.  We encourage all residents to participate. We provide help to the activities room if needed. We also hold one on one activities for those that can not leave their rooms. Even if a resident is non-verbal we can do various other activities with them such as singing, reading, etc.

Do you have doctors and nurses on staff?

Our full-time Medical Director is Dr. Antonio Hernandez. Dr. Hernandez has been practicing Internal Medicine for over 23 years. Dr. Hernandes works with Physician’s Assistant (PA), Wesley C. Green, PA. They are both in our facility multiple times per week.

We also have a Rehab Specialist physician, Dr. Dan Nemeth, MD who is a Board-certified physiatrist. Dr. Nemeth has a Physician’s Assistant, Michael Winter, PA-C. Their goal is to help eliminate pain and get lives back on track, utilizing a diagnostic approach to find the root of the problem and to ensure each resident will thrive in their next living environment. Each of these Physicians and Physicians Assistants are in our facility multiple times per week.

Yes, we do have full-time nursing staff 24 hours per day.

What is your visitation policy?

We are open for family visitation 7 days per week from 8 am to 8 pm.

 

How do you protect patients, staff, and visitors from COVID-19 and other infectious diseases?

Our team is highly trained and experienced in caring for high-acuity patients and infectious diseases like COVID-19. Our dedicated infection prevention nurse helps ensure we follow current infection prevention guidelines and best practices. This includes educating all staff about the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as N95 masks, surgical masks, gloves, and gowns and when to use COVID-19 protocols required by local department of public health and/or the CDC.
